Sankofa is a first person narrative adventure game developed by the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine. The game brings awareness of the Akan people and their rich culture, aiming to bring a cultural understanding of history not regularly covered in standard education. The game was utilized in classes at the Smithsonian, and has been featured in a collection of museums including the National Museum of African American History and Culture. It was also featured here in the L.A. Times.
My role on the team was to create style-compatible, culturally/historically accurate 3D models and concept art using 3DS Max and Photoshop. Specifically, I designed concept art for and created, environmental and prop assets based on real 17th century Ghanian artifacts. My main focus was the instruments collected throughout the game, but I also was tasked with modeling a brahman cow with clean enough poly flow to be animated.
